EarthQuake 7.3 in TNT
HeadLine In PaperThusrday,29th November 2007 A number of buildings in Port-of-Spain suffered some damage during yesterday’s powerful earthquake.
A few businesses said they observed cracks on either their walls of floor after the tremors stopped shortlt after 3 pm.
The most dramatic demonstration of damage seems to occur at the Central Bank. Pieces of concrete fell from a section of the building and smashed on the ground in the plaza area on Independence Square.
One worker told CNC3 News he would keep pieces of broken concrete “as a remembrance.”
Downtown Owners and Merchants Association (Doma) President Gregory Aboud thanked God that there were no reports of serious damage in the country.
Aboud said T&T had once again “escaped,” but warned that it may be a matter of time before luck runs out.
“We are very grateful that downtown has escaped from any serious damage.
“But we do not know how much longer we can rely on luck,” said Aboud.
He said in that regard, several issues of emergency mechanisms must be implemented efficiently and monitored properly.
“Among the more serious issues is our failure to adopt an emergency evacuation plan for Port-of-Spain,” said Aboud.
He also suggested the need to implement “a reliable” communications system for the Police Service.
“For instance, satellite phones, since other forms of communication can easily go down in an earthquake” Aboud added.
The Fire Service, which was also monitoring possible damage to the city yesterday, reported that “nothing major” had happened to Port-of-Spain.
Public relations officer for the T&T Fire Service Ian Green said things “appeared as normal” as no damage was reported.
“We had no reports of major damage to buildings, houses or other structures.
“Everything appears normal,” said Green.
He added, however, that the Fire Service was “on alert” and “well prepared” to deal with any natural disasters, including earthquakes.

Notes ; Time tu aku tengah duk depan komputer kat office,sesekali kaki aku terasa macam bergerak....bukan kaki yang bergerak tapi lantai yang kaki aku pijak tue macam bergerak....Aku tanya kat member2 engineer kat office nie... 'kau rasa apa yang aku rasa?'.....Macam bergerak2 lah lantai nie....Pastu makin lama makin kuat....Than lantai kat atas kepala nie macam2 benda jatuh....Masing2 dalam office dah lain macam...Pastu apa lagi,lari lah nak kuar dari bangunan nie...Dahlah bangunan nie baru nak buat....Dalam hati aku taklah takut,coz aku percaya pada Qada dan Qadar aku.....
Alhamdulillah,bila dah kuar kat bangunan tue....Rupa2 nya gempa bumi....Aku dok tengah terbayang member aku sorang tu yang tengah kerja bawa kren menara....Macammanalah keadaan dia yer....hehe....Than bila esoknya aku tanya kat dia...Apa yang dia rasa,dia bagi tahulah sumer benda dia pegang dalam kabin kren tue....maklumlah duk dalam kren yang hanya guna support ke bangunan than terpacak macam tiang kat tepi bangunan tue....lagilah kuat gegaran yang dia rasa.....Aku duk dalam office pun terasa inikan benda yang tinggi plak.....
